The Honorable N. Hunter Davis currently serves the people of Broward County as the incumbent Circuit Court Judge in Group 21. Since January 2025, Judge Davis has presided in the General Civil Division, having previously served in both the Criminal Division (2021-25) and Family Division (2018-21). During his 7 years on the bench, Judge Davis has presided over more than 200 trials to verdict, as well as the Broward County Grand Jury for the July-December 2022 term. Since January of 2025, Judge Davis has also served as a member of the faculty at the Florida Judicial College, teaching in the area of Florida search and seizure law.
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Davis had a diverse legal career in both government and private practice. Judge Davis has extensive knowledge and experience in our criminal justice system: He previously served as an Assistant Statewide Prosecutor, Assistant State Attorney, and Special Assistant United States Attorney in numerous jurisdictions throughout South Florida. He personally investigated and prosecuted cases involving some of the most challenging issues, such as public corruption, gangs and organized crime, money-laundering, drug-trafficking, and complex frauds. He has earned public recognition from numerous State and Federal law enforcement agencies and organizations for his work.
As a former civil practitioner, Judge Davis also understands the business of law and demands of serving clients: He formerly represented individuals and businesses in the areas of real estate, condominiums and HOAs, landlord-tenant, commercial litigation, insurance, and contract disputes. During his time presiding in the civil division, he has handled thousands of matters involving a wide variety of business disputes, employment, local government taxation and finance, injunctions, negligence, construction claims, probate, and real property.
Judge Davis also holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Miami in the field of Maritime Law. He continues to have a special interest in issues of maritime finance and insurance, as well as environmental regulation and natural resources management within our fragile and unique Florida ecosystems. Judge Davis earned his Juris Doctor degree from Washington & Lee University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina.
In his time away from the bench, Judge Davis shares his passion for the United States Constitution and the Florida Constitution as an Adjunct Professor of Constitutional Law at St. Thomas University School of Law. He brings the same respect for human dignity, individual rights, and the equality of all people to the courtroom each day.
As a volunteer, Judge Davis is a member of various Bar and service organizations. Judge Davis is a member of the Florida Bar Criminal Law Section Executive Council, the Broward County Bar and also serves as a Judicial Liaison to the Young Lawyers’ Division and to the South Broward Bar Association.
Judge Davis is 45 years old and a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, currently celebrating his 18th year as a Floridian. On Saturdays, he cheers for the Hurricanes and on Sundays he cries for the Dolphins.
